Commissionata da Papàs Gjergji Schirò (1907-1992) negli anni 1960, l'aquila a due teste è il simbolo araldico dell'Impero Bizantino, che richiama l'appartenenza degli "arbëreshë" (albanesi d'Italia) alla fede cristiana di tradizione ortodossa, ed è il simbolo nazionale degli albanesi.
